Graceland Track and Field Men Compete at Drake Relays, Excel at Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Graceland University Yellowjackets men's outdoor track and field team capped off a competitive weekend, participating in the Drake Relays and the Grand View Viking Classic, with top performances that continue to position the program solidly among NAIA competitors.

At the Drake Relays, one of the nation's most prestigious collegiate meets, the Yellowjackets qualified for the men's 4x100-meter relay in the Small College Division. The squad of Brice Taylor, Robert Robinson, Kaeden Monday, and Paul Marchand battled through strong competition but finished 29th overall.

"It's an honor to qualify for Drake," said Graceland head coach Quinton Harley. "Our athletes competed hard against national-level competition. Experiences like this build our championship mindset."

The Yellowjackets found further success at the Grand View Viking Classic, highlighted by strong performances in the sprints, mid-distance events, and jumps.

In the 100 meters, Brice Taylor placed second overall with a time of 10.99 seconds, aided by a +2.7 m/s tailwind. Kaeden Monday finished fourth in 11.08 seconds. In the 200 meters, Taylor returned to finish second in 22.24, while Robert Robinson posted a 22.58 to place fifth. Kaeden Monday added a 24.08 to round out a double sprint appearance.

In the 400 meters, Paul Marchand finished second with a time of 51.91, while Payton Miller crossed in 54.87 to place 10th.

Freshman Isaac Ramirez placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.46, while Moses Ridley captured fifth place in the 1,500 meters at 4:52.61.

In field events, Dantre Kennybrew cleared 1.83 meters in the high jump to finish second, while Jeremia Carrasquillo placed seventh with a clearance of 1.78 meters. Kennybrew also competed in the long jump, securing fourth place with a leap of 6.53 meters.

Although the Yellowjackets did not enter a 4x100 relay team at the Grand View Viking Classic, the weekend provided critical race sharpening ahead of championship season.

"Our men fought hard this weekend," Harley said. "The goal is always to peak at the conference championships, and these meets were critical for fine-tuning our race plans. I'm proud of our progression."

Graceland University will next compete at the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, on the campus of Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.
