Gilliland and Millslagle to Represent USA at Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games

Lamoni, Iowa – Michael Millslagle and Sidney Gilliland of the Graceland University Track and Field will represent the USA at the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games held in Chengdu, China and will take place on July 28 – August 8.

Gilliland is a junior from Lee's Summit, Mo. In her 2022-23 season, she had many accomplishments. At the 2023 Heart Indoor Conference Championship, Gilliland placed third in the High Jump with a mark of 1.59m. She would place first in three meets in the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field season. In the 2023 Outdoor Conference Championship, she would place fourth. She would place fourth at the 2023 NAIA Outdoor National Championship with a mark of 1.68m.

"It's an exciting experience for us to be back representing Team USA again, and having Sidney come with us will be amazing" said the Assistant / Distance and Jumps Coach Tom Shore said. They've both had successful years, and this will be a great way to end their seasons."

Millslagle is a senior from Lamoni, Iowa. In the 2022 Indoor Track and Field season, he earned many honors. He would be awarded Heart Track Athlete of the Week on three different weeks. He was the High Jump Champion in the 2023 Heart Indoor Conference Championship with a mark of 2.16m. Millslagle would go to the 2023 NAIA Indoor National Championship, claiming the National Title in High Jump with a mark of 2.13 meters and earning the first men's individual national title in program history.

The Summer and Winter, World University Games are the largest global sports events for student-athletes. Held every two years in different cities worldwide, they bring together thousands of athletes from over 150 countries and have a program that includes over 25 sports—Chengdu 2021 FISU Games, which features 18 sports and 269 medal events.

"I'm tremendously proud of Michael, Sidney, and Coach Shore for their participation in the FISU Games! With track season being such a long grind during the school year and a portion of the summer, a commitment like the FISU games requires a great deal of sacrifice and dedication," said Head Track and Field Coach Quinton Harley. "I applaud this dedication from our participants! I believe it highlights the opportunities that are possible here at Graceland and the enthusiasm which our student-athletes and coaches have for the sport."
