Graceland Volleyball Falls to Park University in Final Home Match
LAMONI, Iowa – In their final home match of the season, the Graceland University Yellowjackets women's volleyball team (5-23 overall, 2-15 HAAC) faced off against Park University, falling in straight sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) at Morden Center. Despite strong starts in each set, the Yellowjackets were unable to hold their leads, eventually giving way to the Pirates' consistent play.
From the outset, Graceland displayed aggressive intent, with key kills by seniors Brenna Crabtree and Ella Thomas. The Yellowjackets opened the first set on a 7-1 run, but Park quickly responded with a series of kills and service aces, eventually taking the first set 25-18.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Graceland once again built an early lead but struggled to counter Park's mid-set rally. Senior setter Hailey Kauweloa provided well-placed assists, allowing Crabtree and Sierra Kauweloa to secure kills. However, Park's steady execution and Graceland errors helped the Pirates build a cushion, closing out the set 25-19.
In the third and final set, Park capitalized on service aces and blocks to put consistent pressure on the Yellowjackets. Graceland's defense, anchored by libero Shelby Jabour, recorded crucial digs, but Park's Grecia Ung and Trinity Iverson provided key points to secure the match with a 25-16 finish.
"A bittersweet night for our team and especially for the five seniors in their last home match," said Head Coach Stew McDole. "We led each set until about 12 points but found ourselves playing catch-up as Park's execution picked up. Another quality effort against a perennial conference champ."
Graceland's attack was led by Crabtree with eight kills, while Sierra Kauweloa added five. Defensively, Jabour led with 11 digs, and Kaci Young contributed to the blocking effort alongside Kylee Dixon, who registered four points.
The Yellowjackets will conclude their season on Tuesday in an away game against Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, with match play beginning at 7 p.m.
