Women’s Golf Competes at The Bluffs in Final Tune-Up Before Heart Championship
PARKVILLE, Mo. — The Graceland University women's golf team concluded regular season competition this week with a one-day event at The Bluffs Golf Club, a par-70 layout in Parkville, Missouri. The Yellowjackets were represented by Rylee Zimmerman and Cydney Stables, as they continued to build momentum ahead of next week's conference championship.
Zimmerman posted a two-round total of +55, shooting 98 and 97 on the day. She was competing as an individual and placed 18th in the field. Her opening nine holes featured several steady bogeys and she improved her back-nine scoring in round two.
Stables, also competing as an individual, carded rounds of 107-111-113 for a 54-hole total of +121, finishing 31st overall. She maintained consistency through all three rounds and continued to gain valuable tournament experience on a demanding course.
The tournament featured multiple teams from around the NAIA and junior college ranks, including entries from Indian Hills Community College, Park (Mo.), Baker, Grand View, Ottawa (Kan.), Crowder, and MidAmerica Nazarene, as well as several individuals from other programs. The Bluffs, known for its elevation changes and narrow fairways, provided a challenging test across all three rounds.
Indian Hills and Park tied for the top individual honors, with Joska Nelis (Indian Hills) and Anna Korsen (Park) each finishing at +23 for the tournament. Scores were generally high across the board, with only three players finishing under +30 for the event.
"This was a great opportunity for our players to get tournament rounds under their belt heading into the conference championship," head coach Kevin Brunner said. "Rylee and Cydney are continuing to make progress, and I was proud of how they handled a tough course setup. The Bluffs doesn't give you many easy shots, so it was a good mental and technical challenge for them."
The Yellowjackets used the tournament to continue focusing on course management, ball striking, and short-game execution. Brunner noted that both student-athletes responded well to pressure situations and are making strides in the areas they've been emphasizing in practice.
Up Next: Graceland will compete at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship on April 21-22 at Nicklaus Golf Club at Lions Gate in Overland Park, Kansas. The 36-hole event will determine the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship and will feature all league programs.
