Lopez Concludes NAIA Wrestling Nationals Run for Graceland
Wichita, KS – Graceland University's Juan Lopez III wrapped up his season at the 2025 NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships, marking the end of the Yellowjackets' campaign at the national tournament. Competing in the 165-pound consolation bracket, Lopez showcased resilience against top-tier competition before bowing out on Friday.
Head coach Zack Mullins reflected on the team's overall performance at the national tournament, commending the grit and determination displayed by the Yellowjackets.
"There are no easy matches at this point of the season, and this tournament was a reflection of that. Our guys continued to battle, and each of them proved they belong among the best in the country. Extremely proud and grateful for these young men."
Lopez Battles Through the Consolation Bracket
Lopez, wrestling at 165 pounds, opened his tournament run against Turner Black (Cumberland-Skyhawks), dropping a major decision (13-5). The loss moved Lopez into the wrestlebacks, where he needed to win consecutive matches to remain in the tournament.
In the consolation bracket, Lopez rebounded with an 18-8 major decision over Anthony Federico (Southeastern-Fire), keeping his tournament hopes alive. In his next bout, Lopez met Braeden Baller (Texas Wesleyan-Rams), where he displayed offensive pressure but fell in a technical fall (17-2), officially eliminating him from title contention.
Looking Ahead
With Lopez's elimination, Graceland's run at the NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships came to a close. The Yellowjackets, however, have positioned themselves well moving forward, with a roster of young, talented wrestlers who continue to develop under Mullins' leadership. Recruiting efforts remain a priority as the program builds toward further success in 2026 and beyond.
