Buzzkill: Yellowjackets Stifle Ravens in 27-18 Conference Clash

Atchison, KS - The Graceland University Yellowjackets men's wrestling team delivered a strong performance on Wednesday night, defeating Benedictine College 27-18 in an important Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) dual. With the victory, Graceland improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in HAAC competition, while Benedictine moves to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference action.

The Yellowjackets secured victories in six of ten contested matches, utilizing a combination of dominant major decisions, a technical fall, and two pins to control the dual. Despite forfeiting two weight classes, Graceland's wrestlers responded to the challenge with poise and execution on the mat.

Match Results

125 lbs – Clemente Delgado (GU) over Jacob Campbell (BC) – MD 16-3
Delgado opened the dual with an aggressive offensive pace, securing multiple takedowns and turns to earn a major decision

133 lbs – Terrance Smith (GU) over Charles Easterling (BC) – MD 11-0
Smith controlled the match from start to finish, shutting out his opponent with superior mat returns and top control.

141 lbs – Brayden Johnson (BC) over Riley Harger (GU) – Dec 5-3
Harger battled but was edged in a close decision, as Johnson capitalized on a late escape and takedown.

149 lbs – Ryan Anderson (GU) over Hayden Biggs (BC) – TF 18-3
Anderson's offensive onslaught was relentless, securing a technical fall to extend the Yellowjackets' lead.

157 lbs – Joe Insalaco (BC) over Invi Bella (GU) – Dec 13-12
Bella put together an impressive effort, but Insalaco held on in a high-scoring affair.

165 lbs – Colin Sharp (GU) over Vincent Carpena (BC) – Fall 19-2
Sharp delivered a dominant performance, racking up nearfall points before securing the pin.

174 lbs – Christion Griggs (BC) won by forfeit

184 lbs – Joseph Teguia (GU) over Oliver Scelza (BC) – Fall 1:56
Teguia wasted little time, securing an early takedown and pinning Scelza in under two minutes.

197 lbs – Doug Blaha (BC) won by forfeit

285 lbs – Kazz Hyson (GU) over Mason Harris (BC) – Dec 5-0
Hyson closed the dual with a methodical victory, controlling ties and capitalizing on mat returns.

Head coach Zack Mullins praised the team's effort, emphasizing their ability to meet the moment despite lineup challenges. "Tonight was a prime example of circumstance doesn't change responsibility, and the guys responded. Back to the lab to continue to find ways to be the best we can be."

The Yellowjackets will return to action this Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, MO, hosted in the Burns Athletic Complex.
