#24 GU Wrestling Falls to #15 Missouri Valley in Nationally Ranked Showdown

MARSHALL, Mo. — The Graceland University Yellowjackets wrestling team faced a tough challenge on Friday night, going head-to-head with No. 15 Missouri Valley College in an NAIA top-25 dual meet. Despite their resilience, the No. 24 Yellowjackets fell to the Vikings by a decisive 43-0 margin.

With the loss, Graceland's dual record drops to 5-2 on the season, while Missouri Valley continues to bolster its impressive campaign as a top-15 team nationally.

The dual opened at 125 pounds, where Missouri Valley's Robert Albert picked up six points for the Vikings as Graceland left the weight class open. In the 133-pound matchup, Haden Hernandez (MVC) outpaced Graceland's Nick Foster in a dominant 10-1 major decision. At 141 pounds, Devin Martinez added another major decision for the Vikings, defeating Joe Frazier 14-3.

The most decisive performances came in the middle weights. Missouri Valley's Bryson Anderson earned a pin over Graceland's Hoakea Salter at 149 pounds, ending the match in 3:49. At 157 pounds, Brayden Shelton mirrored that result, pinning Invi Bella in 4:07 to extend the Vikings' lead to 26-0.

Graceland's upper weights battled valiantly but came up short against stiff competition. At 165 pounds, Brendan Parks edged out a 10-4 decision over S. Dickerson, and Francis Morrissey followed at 174 pounds, dominating Jett Nelson with a 14-3 major decision.

In the higher weight classes, Drake Tipton earned an 8-3 decision over Chris Wohrley at 184 pounds, while at 197 pounds, Elijah Hynes secured a commanding 15-4 major decision against John Schuttler. To close the dual, Randy Gonzalez bested Kazz Hyson with an 8-1 decision at 285 pounds, sealing the Vikings' commanding victory.

Head coach Zack Mullins reflected on the team's performance and what lies ahead: "We just have to continue to find ways to get better each and every day the rest of the season. This group is resilient and will get back to work," Mullins said.

Despite the loss, Graceland remains competitive within the NAIA landscape and looks to rebound as they continue their season.

Graceland's next dual is scheduled for this Tuesday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m. when they host the nationally ranked Grand View Vikings at the Morden Center in Lamoni, Iowa. The Yellowjackets aim to showcase their resilience and secure an important victory in front of their home crowd.
