
Jackets Fall in Straight Sets to Mount Mercy
LAMONI, Iowa – The Graceland University men's volleyball team faced a tough test against Mount Mercy on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets (25-13, 25-13, 25-16) at Morden Center. The Yellowjackets struggled against a strong offensive showing from the Mustangs, who entered the match with a 15-3 overall record and a 10-2 mark in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) play.
With the loss, Graceland drops to 2-15 overall and 0-10 in conference play.
Mount Mercy controlled the match with efficient attacking, finishing with a .442 hitting percentage and 43 total kills. The Mustangs' offense was led by Brian Lynch, who recorded a match-high 14 kills, while Kevin Fiedler and Sven Krieg each added eight. Setter Maks Cabajewski facilitated the attack with 32 assists, and the Mustangs combined for nine service aces.
Graceland fought to generate momentum but struggled against Mount Mercy's pressure. Elijah Kline led the Yellowjackets with nine kills, while Andrew Youssef added five. Setter Christopher Sawyer dished out 14 assists, and Andrew Cziep recorded 10 digs defensively. The Yellowjackets were limited to an .113 hitting percentage on the afternoon.
Head coach Eric Majors acknowledged the challenge of facing a top conference opponent.
"Hats off to Mount Mercy today. They came in and played at a very high level," Majors said. "I see them finishing well in the conference race. We have to continue to work on our consistency and execution as we move forward."
Next Up: Dordt University
Graceland will look to bounce back in its next match against Dordt University. The Yellowjackets will travel to Sioux Center, Iowa, to take on the Defenders inside De Witt Gymnasium.
