Graceland Men's Volleyball Falls to William Penn, Prepares for Grand View Matchup

Lamoni, Iowa – The Graceland University men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to William Penn University (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Friday evening at Morden Center. The Yellowjackets drop to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play, while the Statesmen improve to 7-5 (4-1 Heart).

Match Recap

The visiting Statesmen controlled the match offensively, hitting .277 as a team while holding Graceland to a -.009 attack percentage. William Penn jumped out early in all three sets, using strong service pressure and an efficient attack to keep the Yellowjackets at bay.

Graceland struggled to find offensive consistency, finishing with 23 kills and 24 errors on 110 total attempts. Andrew Youssef led the Yellowjackets with nine kills, while Elijah Kline added seven. Setter Luis Garcia facilitated the offense with 19 assists. On the defensive side, Garcia and A.J. Rasquero recorded three digs each, and Chase VanDellen registered two block assists.

For William Penn, Britten Beallis posted a match-high eight kills with a .533 hitting percentage, while Ben Cemeno-Castillo and Ben Brinkman added eight and seven kills, respectively. Setter Brady Zell dished out 37 assists, leading a balanced attack. The Statesmen also won the battle at the net, registering seven total team blocks to Graceland's two.

Coach's Comments

Graceland head coach Eric Majors acknowledged the challenges the team faced but remained optimistic.

"We struggled to maintain our offensive rhythm tonight, but I liked the effort our guys put into staying competitive. William Penn executed at a high level, and we need to do a better job of limiting our errors. We'll use this as a learning opportunity and get back to work in preparation for Grand View."
