Graceland Places Ninth at Home Invite, Hughes Leads Jackets at Mozingo

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Graceland University men's golf team hosted its annual Graceland University Invite at Mozingo Lake Golf Course on March 29–30, finishing ninth overall in a competitive 10-team field. The Yellowjackets posted a two-round team total of +92 (64-over-par in round one, 28-over-par in round two).

The 36-hole event was held on the par-72 layout in Maryville, Missouri, and included several Heart of America Athletic Conference opponents along with strong junior college and NAIA competition.

Graceland was paced by Noah Hughes, who recorded the team's low individual total of +15 (T-15th) after rounds of 87 and 72. His second-round even-par performance marked one of the top rounds of the day across the entire field. Saxen Hii followed with a total of +22, while Jonathan Paramananthan posted a +23. Rounding out the scoring for the Yellowjackets were Trevor Shelton (+34) and Griffin Haugh (+38).

As a team, Graceland improved dramatically in round two, trimming 36 strokes off its opening round. The Yellowjackets were one of just a few teams in the field to post a significantly lower second-round score, aided by consistent ball striking and improved course management in the final 18 holes.

Southwestern Community College (Iowa) took the team title with a +38 total, followed by Buena Vista (+50) and Simpson College (Iowa) (+52).

Graceland head coach Kevin Brunner praised the effort and highlighted areas for continued development.

"It's always good to host and test ourselves against a competitive field," Brunner said. "Noah showed great composure to bounce back in round two, and our team as a whole made a solid improvement from day one to day two. That's the kind of response we're looking for. That said, we still need to refine our decision-making, particularly in our approach shots and short-game execution. There's potential in this group, and now it's about turning those stretches of solid play into consistent rounds across the board."

In total, 10 teams and more than 50 individual competitors took part in the event. Graceland's team score was just one shot back of Waldorf University's B team and within striking distance of Central College's B squad.
