Bio

Matt Dickman enters his second season as an assistant coach at Graceland University, bringing with him a wealth of experience across multiple collegiate levels and the NBA G-League. Dickman made an immediate impact in his first year with the Yellowjackets during the 2023-2024 season, where he played a key role in the team’s impressive 21-9 record and 17-7 mark in conference play.

"Matt brings tremendous experience to our staff, having worked at many levels, including the G-League. Our familiarity with each other is a huge asset as we continue to build this program. His ability to develop players and cultivate relationships is a great value to our student-athletes, program, and the campus community," said Graceland Head Coach Todd Lorensen.

During the 2023-2024 season, Graceland averaged 79.6 points per game while shooting 45.1% from the field, including a solid 32.3% from beyond the arc. The team's offensive firepower was bolstered by standout players such as Austin Braun and Aleksa Markovic, who benefited from Dickman's player development focus. Braun led the team in scoring with 429 points, while Markovic contributed 410 points.

In addition to his role at Graceland, Dickman has an extensive coaching history that includes time in the NBA G-League, where he worked with the Miami Heat's affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, during the 2019-2020 season. Before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Skyforce had won 9 of their last 12 games, with Dickman contributing significantly in areas such as player development, scouting, and video analysis.

Coach Dickman and Head Coach Todd Lorensen have a long-standing professional relationship, having worked together on two previous occasions. They coached together at Buena Vista University during the 2018-2019 season and then reunited at Mount Marty University in 2020-2021. At Mount Marty, the duo helped the program reach unprecedented heights, guiding the team to its first-ever appearance in the GPAC tournament championship game. The team's historic run in the postseason, which included two GPAC tournament wins, marked a turning point for the program.

Dickman has also been part of two conference championship teams. In 2023, he contributed to the Saint Louis University Billikens women's basketball program, helping the team capture its first Atlantic 10 Championship and secure its inaugural ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The Billikens won 11 of their final 12 A-10 contests, capping off a historic season for the program.

His other championship came in 2018 when Dickman coached at Indiana University-East. During that season, the Red Wolves entered the NAIA National Championships as the number one overall seed and spent multiple weeks ranked as the top team in the nation. The team advanced to the NAIA Fab Four before their season ended against the eventual national champions.

Before his time at IU-East, Dickman served as a graduate assistant at Central Methodist University for two seasons, helping guide the team to top-25 rankings. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Brown Mackie College, where the team was ranked as high as 10th in the country during his tenure.

As Dickman enters his second season at Graceland, his player development skills, coupled with his experience across various competitive levels, continue to be valuable assets to the Yellowjackets program. His expertise will be crucial as Graceland looks to build upon last season's success and remain competitive in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) in the 2024-2025 season.
