Bio
Phil Staback enters his first season as Offensive Coordinator for Graceland University, following a year as an Offensive Analyst with the team. Prior to joining Graceland, Staback spent nine seasons (2013-2022) as a member of the coaching staff at Southwest Baptist University (SBU), primarily coaching quarterbacks. Under his leadership, the Bearcat offense consistently ranked among the top in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) over the past four years.
During his tenure at SBU, Staback’s offense produced 41 All-Conference selections (4 All-MIAA and 37 All-GLVC) from 2013 to 2020. One of his standout players was quarterback Cooper Callis, who was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year in spring 2021. Staback also coached three All-Americans: Sammy Zeqiraj (2016), Bubba Jenkins (2016), and Nathan Mourik (2014).
Before his time at SBU, Staback served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for Quarterbacks at Lindenwood University. He also played professionally in the Indoor Football League for the Wichita Wild.
Staback graduated from Lindenwood University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. As a player, he was one of the top quarterbacks in Lindenwood's history and was inducted into the Lindenwood Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2009, he led Lindenwood to the NAIA National Championship game and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors. That season, he completed 67.5% of his passes for 3,381 yards and 36 touchdowns. In 2010, he earned 1st Team All-American honors after throwing for 3,329 yards and 34 touchdowns, completing 75.3% of his passes and setting an NAIA record for most yards per passing attempt. Staback still holds NAIA career records for highest yards per pass attempt and the highest percentage of passes resulting in touchdowns.
Originally from Santee, California, Staback now resides in Lamoni, Iowa with his wife, Jennifer, and their two children, Briar and Quinn.
