Graceland Dance Shines at Cougar Classic in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Graceland University Dance Team delivered an outstanding performance at the Cougar Classic, hosted by Columbia College, showcasing their continued growth and improvement. Competing with their largest team in years, the Yellowjackets impressed with a six-point increase in their overall score compared to their previous competition.

"The team has been working hard to bump up our score from the last competition," said Head Coach Kat Albertson. "We were adaptable and made a lot of changes to our routine, including adding a lot more difficult tricks and skills."

Graceland took the floor with eight dancers, marking a significant milestone in the program's development. Their routine included more complex technical elements, demonstrating the team's increased difficulty level.

"Yesterday we competed with eight people, which is the most Graceland has had out competing on the floor for many years," Albertson noted. "We're really happy to have jumped six points from our last competition and to see the hard work pay off."

The team's performance was evaluated in multiple categories, including Jazz, Pom, Hip Hop, Choreography, and Degree of Difficulty, where they showed remarkable progress. Their improved scores reflect the dedication and resilience of both the dancers and coaching staff.

Looking ahead, the Yellowjackets are excited about the program's continued expansion and competitive success. "We are optimistic about the growth of the program in numbers and how building a larger competitive team will continue to help us advance in rankings," Albertson said.

With momentum on their side, Graceland Dance remains focused on further refining their routine as they prepare for the next competition.
