Graceland University welcomed Zeja Shannon as the new Head Cheer Coach in August 2024, bringing a dynamic blend of experience, leadership, and passion for the sport of cheerleading to the Yellowjackets program. Shannon joins Graceland after an impressive career as a coach and entrepreneur, embodying the values of excellence and community that define the university's athletic culture.

A graduate of William Penn University, Shannon earned her Bachelor of Arts in Human Services & Criminology, but it was her lifelong love of cheerleading that shaped her professional journey. She began cheerleading at the age of six, which eventually led to a collegiate scholarship. This foundational experience sparked her commitment to coaching, and she has spent the past eight years building a reputation as a successful leader in the cheer community.

Shannon’s coaching career includes her role as the CEO of Z-Elite Sports Academy, where she demonstrated her ability to develop cheerleading programs from the ground up. Her expertise in recruiting, mentoring athletes, choreographing routines, and fostering a positive and inclusive team culture has set her apart as a coach. She is known for her technical skill development and her ability to create environments where athletes can thrive both on and off the mat.

In her own words, Shannon is excited about her new role at Graceland: “I am incredibly excited to join Graceland University and lead the Yellowjacket cheer team to new heights. My coaching philosophy centers on technical skill development and fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment. I look forward to working with our talented student-athletes and contributing to the University’s mission of holistic student development.”
