Millslagle Heads to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials — Track & Field

Lamoni, Iowa – Graceland University Track and Field team's Michael Millslagle '24 heads to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore. at the Hayward Field.

Michael Millslagle, 24' of Lamoni, Iowa, will be the first Graceland student-athlete who is a Lamoni native to head to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. He is the second Graceland student-athlete to be accepted to the trials, and is the only NAIA athlete heading to the 2024 trials for the High Jump event.

"It's been my goal for years to make it to the trials and compete as one of the best," Michael Millslagle states. "My time has come, and I couldn't be more blessed and grateful for the opportunity."

During his Heart Conference Indoor Championship campaign, he was the reigning High Jump Champion in all four years he competed: in 2024 with a mark of 2.11m, a mark of 2.16m in 2023, a mark of 2.14m in 2022 and in 2021 we would mark 2.00m.

Through his outdoor track and field career, he secured the top spot in all four years he competed at the Heart Conference Outdoor Championship: in 2024 with a mark of 2.14m, 2.05m in 2023, 2.11m in 2022, and 2.00m in 2021.

At the 2023 NAIA Indoor National Championship, Millslagle made Graceland history by claiming the National Title in the High Jump with a mark of 2.13m, earning the first men's high jump national championship title in program history. He would repeat his National Champion status after clearing the height of 2.14 meters (7 feet, .25 inches) and earned All-American status at the 2024 NAIA Indoor National Championship.

In his senior season the High Jumper would go on to his second 2024 Outdoor National Championship where he would earn second place with a mark of 2.20m, earning All-American status. He would also finish second place in the 2022 NAIA Outdoor National Championship with a mark of 2.14m.

Throughout his time at Graceland, he earned Heart Men's Field Athlete of the Week eight times.

In October of 2022 Millslagle was selected to represent the USA at the FISU (International University Sports Federation) America Games. He would go on to capture the top spot with a clutch performance, he cleared 2.13m (6"11.75); not only did he claim first place, but he also broke the facility record of 2.12m to create a new America Games record.

Millslagle would compete in his second international competition when we represented the USA (for a second time) at the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games in the summer of 2023 (held in 2023 due to COVID-19).

"Having the opportunity to compete at the Olympic Trials is truly a great way for Michael to cap off his senior year," said Assistant Track and Field and Jumps Coach Tom Shore. "Over the last four years he has shown tremendous improvement in his craft, and that hard work has paid off throughout his career. He has certainly solidified himself this year as one of the top high jumpers in the nation, and we are excited to travel to Eugene to compete for a shot at making an Olympic team."

"I'm tremendously happy for Michael in his qualification for the Olympics Trials. He and his event coach, Thomas Shore, have worked countless hours together to make this dream a reality," said by Head Track and Field Coach Quinton Harley. "Michael has proven throughout his tremendous career that he's one of the best high jumpers in the country; it's only fitting that in his final collegiate outdoor season he's able to showcase his talents and represent this program on the biggest stage!"

Millslagle will travel to Eugene, Ore. and compete in the Hayward Field for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Thursday, June 27 at 4:00 PT (6:00 CT).
