Women’s Volleyball Takes Down William Penn in Fifth Set Match Comeback

Lamoni, Iowa - The Graceland University women's volleyball team took on the William Penn University Statesmen. The Yellowjackets took down the Statesmen, 3-2. Graceland moves to 9-16 on the season and remain 5-11 in conference.

Graceland (9-16; 5-11) vs. William Penn (15-15; 9-7)
Set 1: Graceland 25 | William Penn 20
Graceland would take the first lead 5-0, with key kills from Allison Long and Brenna Crabtree and back-to-back aces by Addison Demesko. The Yellowjackets would follow with a 6-2 run to lead by double the Statesmen's points (12-6). Late in the set, William Penn would work a 6-1 rally to close the deficit to four points. Crabtree would end the set with a kill from Hailey Kauweloa.

Set 2: Graceland 21 | William Penn 25
The Statesmen would follow the Yellowjacket's lead, taking an early advantage: 7-2. Graceland would work and close their deficit to one point (12-11), with points from Brenna Crabtree (three kills) and blocks from Kayla Watanabe (solo), Allison Long (assist) and Crabtree (assist). Both teams would trade points. William Penn would snatch the four remaining points to take the second set.

Set 3: Graceland 23 | William Penn 25
William Penn would continue their offensive play, taking the advantage 11-7. The Yellowjackets would answer to tie 12-12, with points from Kayla Watanabe (kill), Allison Long (kill), Brenna Crabtree (kill) and a Sera Tofi ace. A Kill from Arissa Carpenter would push Graceland to lead 19-16; Kaylee Baker and Alli Gillen would contribute. Graceland would add to their lead 23-22, and William Penn would take the last three points.

Set 4: Graceland 26 | William Penn 24
Graceland would lead by two with a four-point rally; a kill from Brenna Crabtree and back-to-back aces from Shelby Jabour contributed. The Statesmen would get to set point first and would be stopped by a Crabtree kill (24-24). A William Penn attack error and a Crabtree kill would send the teams to a fifth set.

Set 5: Graceland 15 | William Penn 10
Both teams would take turns leading. William Penn would come from behind to tie 10-10. Graceland would take control of the set and, with a five-point rally, would come out victorious over the Statesmen under the service of Shelby Jabour, who would end the set with an ace.
