Women’s Volleyball Adds Doubleheader Victory at Missouri Valley Invite

Marshall, Mo. - The Graceland University women's volleyball team took on the Missouri Valley Invite and took on the Friends (Kan.) University Falcons, taking the 3-2 victory. The Yellowjacket would defeat the Tabor College Bluejays in four sets, 3-1. Graceland moves to 2-1 on the season.

Game 1:
Graceland (1-1) vs. Friends (0-2)
Set 1: Graceland 25 | Friends 11
Graceland would come from behind to produce a 9-2 scoring run and would pull a lead of four, with a Brenna Crabtree kill from Hailey Kauweloa. Graceland would continue their dominating force with an eight-point run from the service of Marlis Aviles (21-9). They would hold the lead to take the first set.

Set 2: Graceland 19 | Friends 25
The Falcons would follow in the second set with their own run to get an early lead of 14-10. A Brenna Crabtree kill, an Arissa Carpenter ace and a Malia Kelly kill would close the gap to one-point. The Falcons would continue to grow their lead to take the second set.

Set 3: Graceland 26 | Friends 24
Graceland came out to pull a 11-5 lead early, and would follow to get an eight-point lead (21-13). Friends retaliated with their own 9-2 scoring run to tie the score 22-22. Back-to-back kills from Arissa Carpenter and Sierra Kauweloa would push Graceland to take the third set.

Set 4: Graceland 16 | Friends 25
Friends would retaliate in the fourth set with an eight-point scoring run. The run would be broken by an Allison Long kill from Addison Demesko. The Falcons would hold their advantage for the fourth set.

Set 5: Graceland 15 | Friends 12
Both teams came out competitive. Graceland would get the first lead of five points (10-5). The Falcons would close their deficit to two points (12-14) but a Arissa Carpenter kill would end the match.

Graceland (2-1) vs. Tabor (1-1)
Set 1: Graceland 25 | Tabor 27
Tabor would get an early start, and create a 11-3 lead. Graceland would retaliate and close the gap with a 7-1-point jump to tie (15-15). Both teams would go point for point. The Bluejays would snatch the last three points to take the first set.

Set 2: Graceland 25 | Tabor 20
The Bluejays rallied first to create an advantage, the Yellowjackets would answer with their own run to tie (7-7) and would continue with a 6-1 run following a Tabor point (13-9). Back-to-back kills from Brenna Crabtree and a kill by Allison Long would end the second set, in a Yellowjacket victory.

Set 3: Graceland 25 | Tabor 20
The Yellowjackets would continue their fire, to take an early lead 9-4 and would to pull a nine-point jump (18-9). Tabor would work to close their gap to three-points. Graceland would hold their lead and take the third set.

Set 4: Graceland 25 | Tabor 17
Graceland would continue in their groove to take the lead and remain in the lead for the set. The Yellowjackets would hit .212 with 11 kills on 33 attempts. Kills from Kaylee Baker and Kayla Watanabe would end the set for a Graceland victory.

The Yellowjackets will be back on the court on day two of the Marshall, Mo. where they will compete in the Missouri Valley Invite on Saturday, August 26. They take on the Southwestern (Kan.) College Builders, start time is set from 1:00 pm.
