The Yellowjackets Sweep Day One of Jimmy John’s Classic

Oskaloosa, Iowa. - The Graceland University women's volleyball team traveled to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to compete in the Jimmy john's Classic hosted by William Penn University. The Yellowjackets end day one, defeating the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers and Mount Marty (S.D.) Lancers, they are now 4-4 on the season.

 

Graceland (3-4) vs. Iowa Wesleyan (0-2)

Set 1: Graceland 25 | Tigers 17

Early in the set, both teams pushed to gain the advantage. The Yellowjackets were able to create a lead, pushing ahead with a 6-0 run to gain match point. The Tigers worked to stay in the game, snatching two points, but an attack by Megan Janok closed the first set.

Set 2: Graceland 25 | Tigers 22

The Tigers pushed out the gate, taking an early lead (7-4). The tide was shifted with a 5-1 run to meet the Tigers. A kill by Allison Long pushed the Yellowjackets into the lead, and they remained that way until a last-minute effort by the Tigers closed the gap to 2 points. Back-to-back kills by Sierra Kauweloa sealed the second set.

Set 3: Graceland 22 | Tigers 25

Graceland continued their momentum into the third set, neither team taking a substantial lead. Graceland evened the score 20-20, but Iowa Wesleyan snatched five of the last seven points.

Set 4: Graceland 25 | Tigers 18

Both teams came out hot in the fourth set, the score staying within one point. A 9-2 scoring run pushed Graceland ahead to 20-13. The Yellowjackets continued their offensive power to take the match. They closed the gap and tied at 18-18, where they took control of the set—holding a lead of two points to take the second set.

Graceland (4-4) vs. Lancers (0-2)

Set 1: Graceland 23 | Lancers 25

The Lancers fired out the gate, pushing a 7-0 scoring run to pull ahead 11-4. Graceland returned to tie 15-15. Both teams tried to hold the lead, but the Lancers held on to the last two points to take the set.

Set 2: Graceland 25 | Lancers 22

The Lancers came out hot again as they took the early lead. Graceland worked to close the gap and tied at 18-18, where they took control of the set—holding a lead of two points to take the second set.

Set 3: Graceland 25 | Lancers 21

The Yellowjackets continued their momentum into the third set, leading 5-2 from the start. The Lancers worked to close the deficit and were able to tie. Going into the remaining three points of the game (22-21), Graceland produced three kills to grab the third set. 

Set 4: Graceland 13 | Lancers 25

The Lancers gained the advantage earlier in the set (11-4). The Yellowjackets fought to stay competitive, shrinking their gap to four, but Mount Marty responded and never looked back, taking set four.

Set 5: Graceland 15 | Lancers 11

Heading into the fifth set, both teams pushed to take the early lead, and Graceland snatched that, taking the first lead 7-4. The Lancers responded with their run to tie at 7-7. Not giving in, a kill by Allison Long gave the Yellowjackets the edge, and back-to-back kills from Megan Janok sealed the set.
