Yellowjackets End MVC Tournament Split.

Marshall, Mo. - The Graceland University women's volleyball team competed in day two of the Missouri Valley tournament. The YellowJackets end day two at the Viking Invitational split, defeating the Bethany (Mo.) Swedes and falling to the University of Health and Science (Mo.) Eutectics. The YellowJackets are now 2-4 on the season.

 

Graceland (2-2) vs. Swedes (2-5)

Set 1: Graceland 26 | Swedes 24

Both Teams pushed to stay competitive in the first set. The Yellowjackets were able to create a deficit leading at the most of four (15-11). The Swedes closed the gap to tie 24-24. Megan Janok dealt the last two points with a kill and service ace.

Set 2: Graceland 25 | Swedes 21

The Swedes pushed out the gate, taking an early lead (7-4). With a 5-1 scoring run, the Yellowjackets clutched their lead. Bethany was able to cut their deficit to one point (24-23). The Swedes dealt a service error, and Graceland took the second set. 

Set 3: Graceland 25 | Swedes 21

Graceland continued their momentum into the third set and held their lead into the first half of the set. The Swedes answered with a 7-2 scoring run and led by four (19-15). Graceland did not bend, taking the final set by two points (25-23).

Graceland (2-4) vs. Eutectics (1-3)

Set 1: Graceland 27 | Eutectics 25

The Yellowjackets held the lead for the set. Neither team wanted to give the other an edge. The Eutectics fell to two points behind; with back-to-back kills, they tie it up 24-24. The last two points dealt with a kill and service ace for Graceland. 

Set 2: Graceland 16 | Eutectics 25

The Eutectics came out on fire, taking an early lead. The Yellowjackets tied at 10-10, but UHSP responded and never looked back, taking set two.

Set 3: Graceland 20 | Eutectics 25

The Eutectic continued their momentum into the third set,leading 13-4. Graceland responded with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to five points. The Yellowjackets would get within four points, but UHSP was just out of reach, taking set point. 

Set 4: Graceland 25 | Eutectics 27

Graceland came out hot in the fourth set, trailing but not far behind. Both teams would trade point for point. The tide would shift again, but the Eutectics would take the last three points to end the match.

Up Next:

The YellowJackets will be back in action on September 2, when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa to compete in the William Penn Labor Day Tournament. With a doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan at 1:00 pm and Mount Marty at 5:00 pm.
