Softball Caged the Fighting Bees

Davenport, Iowa – The Graceland University Softball team opened their season in Davenport, Iowa, when they went up against St. Ambrose University Fighting Bees. The Yellowjackets took the doubleheader from the Spires in game one 2-1 and in game two 10-3.

The Scoring – Game 1
B1 – The Fighting bees got on the board first with an RBI single to center (GU:0 | SAU: 1)
T3 – Ries Wilson would RBI single to second base to score Corry Pickering to tie the score (GU:1 | SAU: 1)
T5 – The Yellowjackets would have an offensive inning with bases loaded; a Samantha Bradshaw single to the pitcher would score Corry Pickering (GU:3 | SAU: 1)

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Allison Rebling pitched 7.0 innings, had nine strikeouts and faced 27 batters.
The Yellowjackets had six hits, led by Samantha Bradshaw and Ries Wilson.
Ries Wilson produced a double and an RBI.

T1 – The Yellowjackets would start on the board and add four. Grace Francis singled up the middle, scoring Samantha Bradshaw. A single to second by Charlee Peters scored Samantha Bradshaw, and a wild pitch would bring Taylor Beane home. Corry Pickering would drive the ball to shortstop, and Francis would score (GU:4 | SAU: 0)
B2 – The Fighting Bees would score three from a fielder's choice, a Yellowjacket wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly to second base (GU:4 | SAU: 3)
T3 – Paige Cooper would drive the ball over the center field fence for a three-run home run (GU:7| SAU: 3)

The Yellowjackets had 12 hits, led by Corry Pickering, Ries Wilson, Samantha Bradshaw and Grace Francis.
Paige Cooper hit a home run, and Samantha Bradshaw doubled.
Corry Pickering, Ries Wilson (3), Paige Cooper (3), Grace Francis, and Charlee Peters had RBIs.

Up Next:
The Softball team will be back on Friday, February 17, when they travel to Fulton, Mo., to take on the Briar Cliff (Iowa) University Chargers and the William Woods University Owls. Game one is set for an 11:00 am start against the Chargers, and game two is first pitch is set for 3:00 pm against the Owls.
