Graceland Rodeo Completes Inauguaral Competition

LAMONI - This past weekend, the Graceland University Rodeo team competed in their first official rodeo. The team traveled to North Platte, Nebraska to compete in the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede at the Wild West Arena. Graceland had five athletes compete in four different events.

Grant Gansmer competed in steer wrestling and had a great run at 5.8 seconds run that qualified him for the short round. He was able to place 4th in a field of 32 the qualifying round.

Makenzie Evans competed in both the barrel racing and breakaway roping. In breakaway roping, she had a time of 5.3 seconds and just missed making it to the next round.

Graceland also had Jordin Sole compete in barrel racing. She had two smooth runs, but was unable to make the short round. Jordan did set a personal best in goat tying this past weekend.

Carly Stark made a great run in the barrels with a time of 19.9 seconds and was just out of making the short round. In addition, Jamie Stackhouse also had success in barrel racing. She made made the short round with a time of 18.4 seconds and had an 18.5 second run in the short round. With a total time of 37.09 seconds, she was able to place 7th out of 105 other athletes.

Head coach Fenton Nelson commented, "As a coach, I am so proud of these athletes. It amazes me with the passion and drive that these athletes have. We are a small team, but deep down I believe that we have a chance to do great things and win more in the future."

This upcoming weekend the rodeo team will be going to Fort Dodge, Iowa to compete in a double header at Iowa Central Community College.
