Bio

Zack Mullins was selected as Head Coach in 2013 when Graceland University reinstated its wrestling program after 30+ years without the sport. Since then, Mullins has coached National Champions, All-Americans, National Qualifiers and All-Conference selections while helping lead the program to multiple Top 20 national finishes over of his nine seasons as Head Coach. Under Mullins, the wrestling program has been recognized multiple times for their success on the mat as well as in the classroom including but not limited to awards and recognition listed below. Mullins has seen a steady and consistent level of national success as he’s participated in 15 consecutive NAIA National Championships.

  • 2021 Scholar National Championship Team (best GPA nationally)
  • Program’s first 2x National Champion
  • 8 All-Americans, 27 National Qualifiers, 5 Conference Champions
  • First Top 10 team finish in the country in over 30 years (9th)
  • Three Consecutive Top 20 finishes in the country (9th - 2021, 14th - 2020, 18th - 2019)
  • 2x Heart of America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (2019, 2020)
  • 2x Graceland University Head Coach of the Year (2019, 2020)
  • Consecutive Top 5 NWCA All-Academic Team finish in the country (1st - 2021, 4th - 2020)
  • 5 consecutive Top 20 NWCA All-Academic Team finishes (2016-2021)
  • 13 NWCA All-Academic Team Individual Selections
  • 13 Graceland Male Athlete of the Year honors

Mullins was also selected as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Coach of Character award recipient in 2022 – a high honor recognizing dedication and commitment to deliberately teaching character to student-athletes through sport.

As part of a restructuring of Graceland’s athletic department to provide a strong leadership team, Mullins was named Associate Director of Athletics in June of 2017.

Prior to GU, Mullins spent two years as a graduate assistant wrestling coach at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. While at BCU he had the privilege of coaching eight NAIA national qualifiers and playing a role in growing a small team of 10 to 35 student-athletes.

Mullins was a four year varsity letterman in both wrestling and track and field at Briar Cliff University from 2007-2011 in weight classes ranging from 141-157 lbs. He was BCU's 2nd ever four-time NAIA wrestling national qualifier and Great Plains Athletic Conference champion his senior year at 157 lbs. Mullins was also a three-year team captain and first team all-conference selection in the GPAC.

Mullins graduated from Briar Cliff University in 2011 with a BA in Sport Management. He earned his MA in Human Resource Management in 2013 also from BCU.

Zack is originally from Lincoln, Illinois and currently resides in Lamoni, Iowa with his wife, Kelsey, daughter, Kendall and son, Elijah.
