Wrestling Defeats Benedictine on Senior Night

Lamoni, Iowa – The Graceland University Wrestling team dueled the Benedictine College Ravens on their senior night. The Yellowjackets defeated the Ravens, 36-3 and end their seasons 5-4 in duels.

Starting the Yellowjackets off for the night with an exhibition in the 125lbs weight class between Graceland's Denias Johnson and Benedictine's Brock Sutton. Sutton would take the match 11-3.

First up for the Yellowjackets in the 125 lbs weight class, Clemente Delgado on the Raven's Jacob Campbell. Campbell would take the first match by decision (4-3), starting the contest at 0-3

In the following weight class, 133 lbs, Riley Harger (GU) would step to the mat against Calvin Miller (WU). Graceland would take the class by decision (6-2) and even the score 3-3.

The Yellowjackets would add a win by decisions (7-1) in the 141 lbs weight class from the matchup of Graceland's Jax Wenberg and Benedictine's Kohen Coffman. The Yellowjackets would take the lead 6-3.

In the match up of Zack Wicks of Graceland and Daryl Easterling of Benedictine in the 149 lbs weight class, Wicks would come out on top by decision (9-2). The score now 9-3.

The following weight class, 157 lbs, would feature Juan Lopez (GU) and Gino Camarca (BC). Lopez would add the first pin of the night to take the class (third period 1:18) The score now 15-3.

In the 165 lbs weight class, Graceland's Jett Nelson would follow next with his own pin (second period 00:58) over Benedictine's Vincent Carpena. The score now 21-3.

Joseph Teguia (GU) would step up to take on Bricen Lee (BC). The Yellowjacket's Teguia would win by tech fall (19-3) in the 174 lbs weight class, shifting the score to 25-3.

In the 184 lbs weight class, Trey Graves (GU) would take on Sean Stara (BC). Graves would take the class by decision (9-6). The score now 28-3.

At the 197 lbs weight class, John Schuttler would take the win by tech fall (17-1) over Benedictine's Todd

The final weight class of the night featured Graceland's Anthony Yancey and Benedictine's Garrett St. Clair. Yancey take the class by decision (7-2) to end the score 36-3.

The Yellowjackets will be back on Saturday, February 3 when they travel to Marshall, Missouri to compete at the Missouri Valley College Open. Tournament start is set for 9:00 AM.
