Wrestling Takes Victory in Tiebreaker Against Baker

Baldwin City, Kan.– The Graceland University Wrestling team would travel to take on the Baker University Wildcats. The Yellowjackets would defeate the Wildcats in a tiebraker victory, 26-5 and move to 4-4 on the season.

First up for the Yellowjackets Robert Albert would take the 125 lb weight class by forfeit, starting the contest at 6-0.

In the following weight class, 133 lbs, TJ Smith (GU) would step to the mat against Christian Nishi-Rivera (Baker). The Wildcat's Nishi-Rivera would take the class by injury. The score would be even 6-6.

Jackson Wenberg (GU) would take the 141 lb weight class over Joseph Triscornia (Baker) by pin (first period 1:10). The score is now 12-6.

In the 149lbs weight class, Zack Wicks (GU) would take on Nikolas Slatoff (Baker). Slatoff would take the class by tech fall (19-4). The score now 12-11.

Graceland would take the 157 lb weight class from the matchup between Juan Lopez (GU) and Jakob Stovall (Baker). Lopez would take the class by sudden victory in overtime (SV-1 4-1) The score now 15-11.

In the 165 lbs weight class, Graceland's Jett Nelson would follow next and take on Baker's Joey Hancock. The match would end in a Wildcat major decision (11-2). The score now even 15-15.

Graceland would take the 174lbs weight class by pin (second period 0:14) from the match up of Joseph Teguia (GU) and Travis Sanders (Baker). The Yellowjackets would take the lead with a score of 21-15

In the following weight class, 184lbs, KJ Fry (GU) would take on Brett Bober (Baker). Bober would take the match by a fall (first period 1:50). The score now even 21-21.

Baker out take the lead in the 197 lb wight class from the match up of John Schuttler (GU) and Malachi Karibo (Baker) by major decision (8-0). The score now 25-21.

The final weight class of the night featured Graceland's Oran Varela and Baker's Elijah Eslinger. Varela would take the class by major decision (9-1) and even the score 25-25.

The Yellowjackets would take the tiebreaker and the victory by a score of 26-25.

The Yellowjackets will be back on Tuesday, January 30 when they host the Benedictine College Ravens. Match start is set for 7:00 pm, prior to match start the Yellowjackets will honor their seniors.
