Wrestling Falls to Missouri Valley

Lamoni, Iowa – The Graceland University Wrestling team hosted the Missouri Valley College Vikings. The Yellowjackets were defeated by the Vikings, 32-16 and move to 2-2 on the season.

Starting the Yellowjackets off for the night in the 125 lbs weight class, Denias Johnson took on the Vikings Elijah Asuncion. Asuncion would take the first match by tech fall (16-1), starting the contest at 5-0.

In the following weight class, 133 lbs, Riley Harger (GU) would step to the mat against Haden Hernandez (MVC). The Vikings would take the class by tech fall (22-6). The score now 10-0.

Graceland would add their first win by decision (8-5) in the 141-weight class matchup of Graceland's Jackson Wenberg and Missouri Valley's Donavan Parn. The score is now 10-3

Chase Zollmann of Missouri Valley would win by decision (9-0) over Zack Wicks of Graceland in the 149 lbs weight class. Zollmann brought the contest to 16-3.

The following weight class, 157 lbs, would feature Juan Lopez (GU) and Caleb Benshoof (MVC). Lopez would take the class by decision (5-4). The score now 16-6.

In the 165 lbs weight class, Graceland's Jett Nelson would follow next and take on Cole Patten. The Match would end in Missouri Valley pin (first period, 00:30). The score now 22-6.

Graceland would get their first pin (third period, 1:03) of the night in the 174 lbs weight call from the matchup between Jeraimiah Nyberg (GU) and Jokiah Sewell (MVC). The score now 22-11.

In the following weight class, 184, Brenden Parks (MVC) would take the class over Joseph Teguia (GU) by pin (third period 1:11). The score now 28-11.

At the 197 lbs weight class, John Schuttler (GU) would take the class by tech fall (16-0) over Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte (MVC). The score now 28-16.

The final weight class of the night featured Graceland's Sam Fleming and Missouri Valley's Joshua Isaac. Isaac would take the class by major decisions (13-3). The Vikings would take the 32-16 victory.
