Wrestling Takes Down Saint Mary

Leavenworth, Kan.– The Graceland University Wrestling team travelled to take on the University of Saint Mary Spires. The Yellowjackets defeated the Spires, 25-23 and move to 2-0 on the season.

Starting the Yellowjackets off for the night in the 125 lbs weight class, Robert Albert took on the Spires Brody Gee. Gee would take the first match from Albert by pin (first period; 0:20), starting the contest at 6-0.

In the following weight class, 133 lbs, TJ Smith (GU) would step to the mat against Roman De La Cruz (SM). Saint Mary would take the class by decision (8-6). The score now 9-0.

The Spires would add a win by tech fall in the 141 lbs weight class from the matchup of Graceland's Ryan Anderson and Saint Mary's Hartwell Taylor. The score is now 14-0.

Austin Almaguer of Saint Mary would win by pin over Jackson Wenberg of Graceland in the 149 lbs weight class. Almaguer brought the contest to 20-0.

The following weight class, 157 lbs, would feature Juan Lopez (GU) and Josey Jernegan (SM). Lopez would add the first Yellowjacket win of the night by decision (11-6). The score now 20-3.

In the 165 lbs weight class, Graceland's Jett Nelson would follow next with his own victory in his first over Saint Mary's Braden Headington by a major decision (14-3). The score now 20-7.

Jeraimiah Nyberg (GU) would step up to take on Tanner Van Scoy (SM). The Yellowjacket's Nyberg would win by pin (first period) in the 174 lbs weight class, shifting the score to 20-13.

In the following weight class, 184, Joseph Teguia would take the class over Benjamin Vogt by pin (first period, 1:04). The score now 20-19.

At the 197 lbs weight class, John Schuttler would fall by decision (10-6) by Saint Mary's Rkyer Blackburn. The score now 23-19.

The final weight class of the night featured Graceland's Sam Fleming, he would take the class by forfeit. Giving the Yellowjackets the 25-23 win.
