Wrestling Conquered Waldorf on Season Opener

Lamoni, Iowa – The Graceland University Wrestling team dueled the Waldorf University Warriors on their home opener. The Yellowjackets defeated the Warriors 38-7 and started their season 1-0.

Starting the Yellowjackets off for the night with his first college matchup, in the 125 lbs weight class, Robert Albert took on the Warrior's Baylen Smith. Albert would take the first match from Smith by pin (second period; 0:08), starting the contest at 6-0.

In the following weight class, 133 lbs, Riley Harger (GU) would step to the mat against Malachi Wallway (WU). Graceland would take the class by decision (9-0). The score now 10-0.

The Yellowjackets would add a win by Tech Fall (23-2) in the 141 lbs weight class from the matchup of Graceland's Jax Wenberg and Waldorf's Shiwoko Shiwoko. The score is now 15-0.

The Warriors would follow with a victory in the 149 lbs weight class. Tyler Okada of Waldorf won by decision (8-1) over Zack Wicks of Graceland. Okada brought the contest to 15-4.

The following weight class, 157 lbs, would feature Juan Lopez (GU) and Jalon Strong (WU). Strong would take the class by decision (9-3). The score now 15-7.

In the 165 lbs weight class, Graceland's Jett Nelson would follow next with his own victory in his first Yellowjacket appearance over Waldorf's Jack Grell by a major decision (10-1). The score now 19-7.

Jeraimiah Nyberg (GU) would step up to take on Randry Mugisha (WU). The Yellowjacket's Nyberg would win by major decision (18-7) in the 174 lbs weight class, shifting the score to 23-7.

In his first Graceland appearance in the 184 lbs weight class, Joseph Teguia would take the class over Keith Connaker in a major decision (10-1). The score now 27-7.

At the 197 lbs weight class, John Schuttler would take the win by tech fall (18-1) over Waldorf's Tayvon Howard. The score now 32-7.

The final weight class of the night featured Graceland's Sam Fleming and Waldorf's Andy Rodriguez. Fleming would pin Rodriguez in the first period to end the score 38-8.
