Men’s Volleyball Taken Down by Ottawa on Home Opener

Lamoni, Iowa – The Graceland University Men's Volleyball team took on the Ottawa University Braves. The Yellowjackets were defeated by the Braves, 3-1. Moving to 2-5 on the season and are 0-1 in the Heart.

Set 1: Graceland 13| Ottawa 25
The Braves would take the first large lead with a 7-1 run (8-2). A kill from Thomas Weseloh would break the run. Later in the set, Isaac Elliott would push a three-point run; points from Sam Johnson and an Elliott ace would contribute. Ottawa would grab 7 of the remaining nine points to take set one.

Set 2: Graceland 23 | Ottawa 25
Graceland would come out of the gate hot to snatch a three-point lead; points from Isaac Elliott, Sam Johnson, Thomas Weseloh – from Mana Kahoopii. Both teams would trade runs. The Braves would add a four-point run to take a two-point lead (14-12); Elliott would break the run with a kill. Both teams would trade the lead and even the score. Ottawa would take the last two points for the second set (25-23).

Set 3: Graceland 25 | Kansas Wesleyan 15
Sonny Tofi would push the Yellowjackets to a six-point lead, starting a four-point run, points from Isaac Elliott (kill, ace and a block) and a block by Kalanikapu Aona (10-4). The Braves would work to close the deficit. Graceland would secure the remaining six points to take the third set off the service of Benedikt Zauner; blocks from Andrew Cziep and Isaac Elliott and a kill from Sonny Tofi (two) would contribute.

Set 4: Graceland 16 | Kansas Wesleyan 25
Benedikt Zauner would continue his service to lead the Yellowjackets to a 4-0 lead; Isaac Elliott (kill), Andrew Cziep (block) and Sonny Tofi (block) would contribute. Ottawa would retaliate with a 6-1 run to take a one-point lead. A kill from Elliott and Sam Johnson would push the Yellowjackets into the lead. Both teams would trade points. The Braves would answer with an 8-1 (19-11) run to take the lead. Ottawa would hold their lead and take the final set.
