Men’s Volleyball Halted by Kansas Wesleyan
Salina, Kan. – The Graceland University Men's Volleyball team took on the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes. The Yellowjackets were defeated by the Coyotes after five sets, 3-2. Moving to 2-4 on the season and are 0-1 in the Heart.
Game 1: Graceland (2-4; 0-1) vs. Kansas Wesleyan (3-3)
Set 1: Graceland 25| Kansas Wesleyan 19
Graceland would take the first point from a Thomas Weseloh kill from Mana Kahoopii. The Coyotes would reach ten points first with a three-point rally. The Yellowjackets would add a 5-1 run, pints from Weseloh, and an ace from Kahoopii. Graceland would work to lead over Kansas Wesleyan, points from Sam Johnson and Isaac Elliott, and blocks by Elliott, Kalanikapu Aona, and Johnson. Graceland would take the first set from a Weseloh kill from Logan Book.
Set 2: Graceland 25 | Kansas Wesleyan 16
The Coyotes found an early 5-3 lead. Graceland would answer to lead by three, 8-5. Later, Sonny Tofi would kill to push the Yellowjackets to rally three to lead by six off the service by Isaac Elliott, points from Thomas Weseloh. Graceland would take nine of the remaining 12 points for the second set.
Set 3: Graceland 17 | Kansas Wesleyan 25
Both teams would stay competitive, trading points. Graceland would take the first lead from a Sonny Tofi kill and an ace by Aiden Martinez. The Coyotes would rally for four to take a three-point lead. A kill from Sam Johnson would break the run. Kansas Wesleyan would snatch the four remaining points to take the third set.
Set 4: Graceland 18 | Kansas Wesleyan 25
Graceland would take advantage of points by Isaac Elliott and blocks by Sam Johnson and Andrew Cziep (6-4). Kansas Wesleyan answered with a four-point rally to take the lead by one (9-8), a kill from Sonny Tofi from Benedikt Zauner. A four-point jump from the Coyotes would give them a three-point lead (16-13). Kansas Wesleyan would hold their lead and take the fourth set, sending the match to a fifth set.
Set 5: Graceland 7 | Kansas Wesleyan 15
The Yellowjackets would start with a 3-0 lead, points from Sonny Tofi (two kills) and Thomas Weseloh. The Coyotes retaliated, pushed a 10-point run (10-3), and held their lead for the fifth set.
