Bio

Matt Colston joins Graceland University as an assistant coach with over 20 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level. He served as varsity basketball coach at Bushnell Prairie City High School (Ill.), Hoopeston Area High School (Ill.), Shelbyville High School (Ill.), and South Dearborn High School (Ind.) for the last 14 years and, prior to that had stops as an assistant coach at the University of Dubuque, Dubuque Senior High School, and Williamsville High School.

At Hoopeston Area, Matt helped turn a struggling program into a very successful program. While also serving as district Athletic Director, his last two teams spent time in the state's top 10 rankings. His Hoopeston teams won the first conference championship in 25 years and the first county championship in 20 years while also winning numerous holiday and regular season tournaments.

Previous to Hoopeston, Matt helped take a three win Bushnell team to a state-ranked team three years later. At his last stop, South Dearborn HS in Indiana, Matt was the first coach in over 30 years to have two consecutive winning seasons. His teams won two consecutive Rivertown tournaments and the Morristown holiday tournament.

Matt served as the head coach in the Illinois-Indiana all-star game in 2017, Prairieland all-star game in 2011, and Spoon River Kiwanis all-star game in 2012. He was named coach of the year by the Mcdonough Voice in 2010 and Galesburg Register Mail in 2011.
